Moisturisers and Creams vs. Emulsions

There's a lot of different terms thrown around in the K-beauty world, which can get a little confusing at times. One we're seeing more and more is emulsion, which we also see amongst the moisturiser and cream categories.

So what is an emulsion exactly? In short, an emulsion is a lighter moisturiser or cream. They're generally water-based and will have a gel consistency as opposed to a traditional lotion texture. A great benefit of emulsions is that they tend to get absorbed into the skin a lot quicker, which can ensure that you get all the benefits from the product you're using.

Depending on your skin type, an emulsion could substitute a moisturiser, or be used to complement one. Oily and very oily skin types can benefit from substituting their moisturisers and creams by a lighter emulsion. For dryer skin types, emulsions can provide added nutrition alongside a serum and moisturiser (the moisturiser or cream should always be the last step of your routine as they take longer to penetrate the skin and could block any products added on after)

Emulsions, in some cases, can also be used to treat certain skin concerns, such as acne or dark spots. Aestura's Theracne line, for example, has a great acne-fighting emulsion which will target acne while still keeping the skin hydrated, unlike traditional products for acne treatment.

Whatever your skin type or concern, there's likely an emulsion for you. Check out what we have to offer here.
